It's the beginning of the fifth pass. Thread has not fallen on Pern in 400 years and many think the threat is over. J'ren and Morwyn, the new Weyr Leader and Weyr Woman of Benden Weyr, disagree.

Soon the Red Star will be clearly visible in the Eye Rock, indicating another pass. There is little time to convince the Lord Holders—and some of the other Dragonriders—there's little time left to prepare.
